The coast of Cala Sant Vicenç presents a good example of the tectonic structure of the northern range of the island of Mallorca, in the form of imbricated thrust faults and overturned synclines. Beginning in the south-east, we find the oldest materials, constituted by the volcanic materials of the Keuper and the breccias of the Rethian (Upper Triassic, more than 200 Ma ago), which form the slopes of Cala Molins and Cala Carbó and thrust up over the more modern materials of the Banyalbufar and Sant Elm Formation of the Lower and Middle Miocene (23.0-13.8 Ma) which appear in Cala Clara and Cala Barques.
