GEOLOGY OF THE WEST OF FORMENTERA

  General data

The area of Cap de Barbaria is one of the most significant Miocene outcrops of Eivissa and Formentera and is mainly formed by fossil coral reefs. As you go to the north, to Cala Saona, you can see evidence of the emerged land that was behind these sea formations. Ending the itinerary in the areas of S’Estany des Peix and Punta de sa Pedrera, you can observe different quaternary geological features of the island.

The route begins at Cap de Barbaria and continues to the north along the PM-V-820 to the deviation towards Cala Saona. Then you must return along the same road and go to the north of Formentera to the Estany des Peix. Once there, continue to Punta de sa Pedrera.
