The mountains of the centre of Mallorca constitute what are known as the Serres Centrals (Central Ranges). Their highest point is the Puig de Randa, from which it is easy to observe the tectonic structure of the island. In addition to its splendid views, it has notable geological interest in presenting various formations that illustrate Mallorca’s geological history at the moments before and during the formation of its present-day orography. In this respect, the observable rocks comprise an interval of between approximately 30 and 15 Ma.
