FROM PANGAEA TO THE BIRTH OF MALLORCA: SA VOLTA DES GENERAL (PORT DES CANONGE-BEC DE S'ÀGUILA)

This itinerary visits some of the key points for understanding the geological history of Mallorca. In the first place, we will observe the red sand-sized clasts.</p><p><br></p></div>">sandstone formations of the Permian (299-251 Ma), belonging to the deserts of Pangaea, the supercontinent that preceded the modern-day continents. We will then see materials of the Lower Miocene (23-16 Ma), the stage in which the present-day reliefs of Mallorca began to form and the reasons why the materials of the Jurassic (201-145 Ma), which we will see at the last stop, lie over all the previous materials.
