GEOLOGY OF THE NORTH COAST OF THE SERRES DE LLEVANT FROM CALA TORTA TO S'ARENALET

  General data

The north coast of the Serres de Llevant (Eastern Ranges) is one of the best areas for studying the Lower Cretaceous (145-100 Ma ago), constituted by limestones and grey marls in well-stratified layers with a nodular appearance, which occasionally display slumps (slip structures). In the area of the coast between the tower d’Albarca and Sa Font Celada also appear breccias and dolomites of the Jurassic (201-145 Ma) interspersed with the limestones of the Cretaceous. Finally, and covering all the above-mentioned materials, there is a border of adjoining fossil dunes, from the Pleistocene (2,5 Ma-10000 years).
